Improve your photographic skills on our one day course
Do you enjoy photography as a hobby? Perhaps you own a high quality digital camera but are a little disappointed with the results. Or maybe you have produced some great images but cannot get them printed well.
If any of this sounds familiar, or you generally just want to improve, our one day photography course could be what you are looking for. The course is run at The Old School House. Why go on a 8 week evening class (when you cannot always guarantee to be free) when you can cover everything in one day with us?
Course content
- Discuss individual goals to try and ensure they are met
- What is good photography?
- Cameras and equipment. Types; what use is a megapixel; how to choose; why digital is better for most people; lenses.
- Fundamentals: exposure (including various types of flash); focus (aperture, focal length); composition.
- Practical exercise using your own camera and borrowing ours if you wish. This will cover indoor and outdoor photography, composition and lighting. There will be a review and suggestions for improvement.
- Software: the main programs and their uses; how to choose; you will use one of the programs to process your practical work.
- How to display for the web.
- Printing: types of printer; how to choose; colour balancing.
Your instructor
The course will be given by Stuart Barry, an Associate of the British Institute of Professional Photography (ABIPP). Stuart has many several years’ experience as a professional photographer covering weddings, portraits, events and live music. He has received merit awards from the British Professional Photography awards and was the Transindus travel photographer of the year for 2007. He has lectured and presented extensively on IT subjects over many years.
Equipment
Bring your own camera and flash if you have it. You will have a chance to try our professional cameras and studio flash. If you have a laptop with photo processing software you may also wish to bring that. There will be a maximum of 6 people on the course and some sharing of our computers.

Notes will be provided covering the topics discussed during the day.
Hours
09:30 to 16:30 with a short break for lunch. Light refreshments will be provided.
